About Carol Abbott Scott

 Carol Abbott Scott, LCSW

Carol is licensed as a Clinical Social Worker for the state of Kentucky and has a Specialization in marriage and Family Therapy.  She maintains a private practice at Patchwork Counseling Group.  She was previously a therapist within the public school system and was formally the Treatment Director for a therapeutic foster care agency.  She was also the Clinical Directory of an outpatient Opioid Treatment program.  From 2002-2004, she served as therapist at St. Elizabeth's Catholic Charities, a non-profit social services agency serving Southern Indiana and surrounding states.  She focused on meeting the challenges of teen pregnancy, and parenting. She has worked with school systems, community agencies, chemical dependency programs and hospice services.  Some of her specialities include issues related to children (sexual abuse, self-esteem, play therapy, bullying) and adolescents (eating disorders, self-harm, suicide, addiction, grief and loss).  She has worked with individuals, couples and families, dealing with a wide array of issues, including systems of interactions between family members, anxiety, depression, job loss, financial crisis, homosexuality, intimate relationship issues, divorce, childrearing, hoarding, employee interpersonal relationships, and anger management.

Carol received a Bachelor's degree in Social Work from the University of Kentucky in 1987.  She was drawn to the University of Louisville because of her interest in Marriage and Family Therapy.  She earned her Master's of Science in Social Work from the Kent School of Social Work at U of L.  She was honored by the Kent School of Social Work Family Therapy Program with the Outstanding Student Award in 2003.

Carol has been a field instructor for master's level students earning their degrees in Social Work.  She is also a board member for the Kent School Alumni Council.  Carol has completed several trainings, including Ethics, Strategies of Grief Therapy, Play Therapy, Eating Disorders/Food Addiction, Interventions for Children Who Suffered Trauma, Self-Harming and Mood Disorders.
